Newsletter: Yahrzeit Study

November 15, 2022  ·
Hi Friend,

We are so grateful for the support and love this community brought to one another during the commemorative events for those killed on October 27th. Over 500 people shared sacred space with us at the commemorative ceremony in Schenley Park, and over 100 people participated in commemorative Torah study, connecting in shared commitment to our Jewish values. We thank Repair the World Pittsburgh, who organized a diverse offering of service events that brought us into relationship with communities and service sites new and familiar, and we thank the over 350 volunteers who donated their time and energy.

A recording of the commemorative ceremony, provided to us by Fly Space Media, is currently hosted on the front page of our website, 1027healingpartnership.org. We are grateful for the beautiful and uplifting performances brought to the commemoration by the Pittsburgh Youth Choir and the Rodman Street Baptist Choir this year. The commemoration recording will soon be moved from our website to our YouTube channel, where it will remain available for viewing.

Yours,

Maggie Feinstein
Director

Commemoration of the Yahrzeit
We encourage you to observe Shabbat and to attend morning services this Saturday, Cheshvan 18 (Nov. 12) at either your local synagogue or one new to you. New Light, Dor Hadash, and Tree of Life will all be accepting visitors to their morning services. To attend Dor Hadash’s morning services, please note that prior registration, proof of vaccination, and N95 masks are required. Tree of Life also asks that you register before attending. New Light will be open to all visitors.

We also invite you to join us in yahrzeit Torah study at the Jewish Community Center of Squirrel Hill on the 18th of Cheshvan (Nov. 12) from 2:30pm to 3:30pm. Please click here to register and learn more.

There will be three components to the Torah study—the Daf Yomi, the Parsha Vayera, and a lecture by Dr. Laurie Eisenberg. These will occur concurrently, and you can choose which aspect of the Torah study you’d like to participate in when you arrive.

Oct. 27th Torah Study Recordings
Thank you to our Oct. 27th Torah study leaders, Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker, Rabbi Moshe Rosenberg, Rabbi Joel Goldstein, Judy Klitsner, and Dr. Tamar Kamionkowski. A huge thank you as well to our community members who introduced the teachers and led the Kaddish D’Rabanan, the prayer we say for learning together in the honor of the deceased.  Unfortunately, due to technical issues we were not able to properly record Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker’s Torah study. It was a very meaningful study for the participants who were able to attend on Oct. 27th, and we regret not being able to offer it in the recorded format.

The other Torah studies are now available on our YouTube channel and are linked below for all to enjoy.
