Newsletter: Farewell to Rabbi Myers

Hello Friend,
The 10.27 Healing Partnership would like to bid Rabbi Hazzan Jeffrey Myers a warm farewell as he and his wife Janice move from Pittsburgh to New Jersey to spend more time with their wonderful family.

Rabbi Myers, the Rabbi of Tree of Life Congregation since 2016, has walked with our community during tragic and joyful times. Since the October 27, 2018 synagogue shooting that impacted Dor Hadash, New Light, and Tree of Life congregations, Rabbi Myers has shown phenomenal leadership and poise in situations no one should ever have to be in.

As foundational somatic healer and psychotherapist Peter Levine said, “the paradox of trauma is that it has both the power to destroy and the power to transform and resurrect.” Rabbi Myers has spoken of his hard-earned wisdom in the face of this tragedy and has shown us the power of transformation and growth.

As he said in his exit interview in the Jewish Chronicle, “It’s easy, I think, for us to blame God for all the bad that happens in life. I’ve never had that attitude, so that’s never changed. We know in Pirkei Avot that everything is preordained, but there’s freedom of choice, so God does not intercede in preordination, just God knows, it’s going to happen.”

Rabbi Myers has led with courage and with faith. We are honored to have been in community with Rabbi Myers and will miss him as he enters this new beautiful chapter of his life. We wish Rabbi Myers and his family all the best in their new home and with his ongoing journey to stand up for the powers of love in our world.
