October Newsletter: Commemoration Details and Events
Hello Friend,
We stand with our community in love, warmth, and care. We will continue to update you through this newsletter, our website 1027healingpartnership.org, and our social media on all updates surrounding commemorative service and volunteering opportunities, commemorative Torah study, and the commemorative ceremony and gathering on October 27th.
Commemorative Ceremony
The commemorative ceremony will take place at 4pm on October 27th at Prospect Drive in Schenley Park. All are welcome and registration to attend the event is not required. We will gather together to honor the 11 taken that day, their families, and the survivors.
Commemorative Volunteering Opportunities
We are grateful to Repair the World Pittsburgh, who each year organize the huge variety of commemorative service events that highlight the causes, places, and ideals that mattered to those who were lost on October 27th. These service events help to make our community stronger, more resilient, and more caring every year, and we encourage you to attend one of these opportunities if you are able.
Service events led by Repair the World will occur on October 16th, 23rd, and 30th. Opportunities include:
- Joining the Black Political Empowerment Project of Pittsburgh and the League of Women Voters in a non-partisan voter registration effort in honor of Melvin Wax, z’’l.
- Joining a cemetery clean-up in memory of Sylvan and Bernice Simon, z’’l, with the Jewish Cemetery and Burial Association (JCBA). This service event is planned in partnership with their son, Marc Simon.
- Joining the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) to assist in labeling donated books that are distributed to families who come through the children’s rooms at local courts. This project is in memory of Joyce Feinberg, z’’l, who volunteered with NCJW for over 20 years.
- Joining the Mallinger family and AgeWell at the JCC as we continue our work beautifying the Levinson Patio to welcome the gathering of older adults there. This event is being hosted in memory of Rose Mallinger, z’’l, who was an active participant in AgeWell programs.
- Joining the Gottfried Family in fostering a culture of inclusivity in the Pitt Athletic Department. This event will be held in memory of Richard Gottfried.
- Joining the family of Cecil and David Rosenthal in independent acts of service through the Love Like the Boys effort.
