Educational Workshop: Understanding the Legal Appeals Process of the Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting
Presentation and Q+A
August 4th, 6:00 pm—8:00 pm
Jewish Community Center, Squirrel Hill
The Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting trial, held in 2023, found the perpetrator guilty of all 63 federal charges. The appeals for the case are now pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, with briefing nearing completion.
As the legal process moves forward, important questions remain: What arguments are being presented to the Court? What can we expect from this process? What are the possible outcomes, and what might they mean for our community?
Join Professor David Harris (University of Pittsburgh School of Law) and Judge Jill Beck (Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge) for a thoughtful and accessible discussion of where the case stands today, what we know from the public court filings, and what may lie ahead.
This discussion will be tailored to the general public; you don’t need to have any prior understanding of the legal system to learn with us.
This program is purely educational and will focus on higher-level understanding of the process rather than dissection of the specific case. This program is not in collaboration with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and all information that will be discussed is already accessible to the public.
