Yahrzeit Virtual Torah Study

We invite the community to join in commemorative reflection, prayer, and study on the yahrzeit of those killed in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. From 11am-12pm and 12pm-1pm on November 19th we will engage in virtual Torah study with scholars from around the world. Learn more about these Torah scholars and register below.

Rabbi Irving Greenberg and Rabbi Lauren Berkun’s Torah study will run from 11am-12pm. Rabbi Lauren Holtzblatt and Cantor Joanna Dulkin’s Torah studies will run from 12pm-1pm.

Rabbi Lauren Berkun is a Vice President of the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America, where she directs Rabbinic Initiatives and is a member of the senior executive team. She also oversees staff education, training and curriculum development for Hartman’s iEngage project.
She is also a certified Sivananda yoga instructor with certification in mindfulness practices and  lives in Aventura, Florida.  She is Rabbi Alvin Berkun’s daughter-in-law.

Rabbi Irving Greenberg (PhD, Harvard University, 1960; rabbi, Beth Joseph Rabbinical Seminary of Brooklyn, 1953), a leading Jewish thinker, theologian, and activist anf and senior scholar in residence at Hadar. He served as a founding president of CLAL: The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, founding president of the Jewish Life Network/ Steinhardt Foundation, activist/founder of the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry, chair of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and rabbi of the Riverdale Jewish Center. He is author of six books, including most recently, The Triumph of Life: A Narrative Theology of Judaism (Jewish Publication Society, 2024).

Rabbi Lauren Holtzblatt from Congregation Adas Israel (Wash. DC) is a proud senior fellow of the Schusterman Fellowship and a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet at JTS, she also serves on the national board of Avodah and the joint steering committee of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ). As a key figure in spiritual leadership and national Jewish and interfaith engagement, she has welcomed two sitting U.S. presidents and numerous world leaders into our community, facilitating meaningful dialogue between them and the broader Jewish community.

Hazzan Dulkin is committed to innovative musical and spiritual leadership that inspires joy, connection and meaning at all ages and stages. She received her Masters of Sacred Music and Investiture from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2004, and completed the Institute for Jewish Spirituality’s Cantorial Leadership Program in 2007.
