Why the Holocaust Still Matters: Lecture and Reception

On Tuesday, March 12, the History Department and the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts at Duquesne will sponsor and host prominent public historian and Holocaust scholar Dr. Michael Berenbaum, who will deliver a lecture titled “Why the Holocaust Still Matters” at 6 PM in the Power Center Ballroom, with a reception afterward.

Widely considered one of the world’s most distinguished scholars of the Holocaust and antisemitism, Dr. Berenbaum draws on his extensive knowledge of Jewish history and thought to explore communities’ understanding of this tragedy and its enduring legacy.

Dr. Berenbaum is the Director of the Sigi Ziering Institute at the American Jewish University. He is the author and editor of 18 books on the Holocaust and antisemitism, and his documentaries have won two Academy Awards and one Emmy. In 1978, President Carter appointed Dr. Berenbaum as Deputy Director of the President’s Commission on the Holocaust (alongside Elie Wiesel). He subsequently became project director for the planning and construction of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.
