Voting Registration (Commemorative Volunteering)
In honor of Mel Wax, one of the eleven people killed on October 27th, 2018, we ask community members to do their part to increase voter registration and participation in civic life and democracy. Mel was a passionate advocate for civic engagement and deeply believed in helping people exercise their right and responsibility to vote. Many people are unaware of where their polling place is or the changes in voting laws, and others are not sure how to get mail-in ballots. The more people who take responsibility for increasing the number of people voting the better we are functioning as a society.
This volunteering opportunity will not be held at a specific place or time; we hope that interested community members will engage with voter registration efforts at their own convenience and availability. Read on to learn more about efforts you can be involved in! Thank you to the League of Women Voters and the Black Political Empowerment Project for the inspiring work done every year on voter engagement; the resources below are largely from these organizations. The deadline to register to vote this year in PA is October 21st.
