Virtual Commemorative Torah Study
We invite the community to join in commemorative reflection, prayer, and study on the yahrzeit of those killed in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. Join us for virtual torah study on Nov. 9th with two exceptional scholars.
Bitachon: (Dis)Trust in Self, World, and the Divine
This session will be led by Anna Coufal, who is a Pittsburgh native and lifelong member of Congregation Dor Hadash. This year, she is taking a break from her studies at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College to pursue a hospital chaplaincy residency. She lives in Brooklyn, NY with her two beloved cats.

“Shmita Every Seven Years: What Our Tradition Can Teach Us About Rest and Resilience in the Face of Grief, Trauma, and Overwhelm”
Rabbi Alicia Harris is the spiritual leader of Congregation Shir Tikvah in Troy, Michigan, a Reform/Renewal Jewish community in Metro Detroit. Congregation Shir Tikvah is innovative yet traditional, and prides itself on being a warm, welcoming, inclusive, and diverse congregation where all can seek God through spiritual, social, educational and cultural aspects of Jewish life. She began her service with the Congregation in July of 2020. Rabbi Harris is a member of the Michigan Board of Rabbis, the Women’s Rabbinic Network, the Commision on Social Action for the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, Detroit Jews for Justice, as well as a part of Troy Interfaith Group, and The Interfaith Council of Metro Detroit. Rabbi Harris was ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio from which she also holds a Masters Degree in Hebrew Letters and where she was a rabbinic fellow for six years. Rabb Harris earned a bachelor of arts in Religious Studies and Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. After undergrad, she worked at Temple Sinai for two years which helped her solidify her decision to go to Rabbinical school. Her parents still reside in Oakland and she is proud to be a Pittsburgher.

Rabbi Dr. Wendy I. Zierler is Sigmund Falk Professor of Modern Jewish Literature and Feminist Studies at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in New York and the coeditor of Prooftexts: A Journal of Jewish Literary History. She is the author of Movies and Midrash: Popular Film and Jewish Religious Conversation and And Rachel Stole the Idols: The Emergence of Hebrew Women’s Writing and coeditor of These Truths We Hold: Judaism in an Age of Truthiness.
